Mongol bow

Mongol bow 44 lbs

107.0 € + VAT: 107.00€

One of The Mongols’main weapons was the bow. Their technical innovation was the stiff syah and the string channel, giving extra speed to the arrow.

On this bow the maple is barely patterned, not the typical birdeye version. That is the reason for offering this bow at 25% reduced price comparing to the real birdeye patterned maple version. The pattern doesn't influence the bow performance.

Description

Birdseye maple

The mountain maple is native to Europe and has spread throughout Central and Southern Europe. It is a tree of hilly and mountainous regions, it likes a humid climate, but it also tolerates the cold as well. The grain pattern isn’t very common in the mountain maple, it is more typical of the sugar maple. It is also used by instrument makers being popular and a beautiful type of wood although the figure is reportedly caused by unfavorable growing conditions for the tree.

In Basic set we add 12 budget arrows, +1 Dacron string and a standard leather armguard.

In Prime set you’ll receive 12 medieval arrows matching to the bow in spine value, 1 Fastflight string and a bow case. If you want the arrows to be shorter than 31”, please write us!

Composite bows are different from the Western European simple bows (so called longbows) in a way that in all cases several pieces of horn and wood were stuck together in layers, with bone stiffening. The form and structure of these were extremely diverse, but it is typical of all of them that in un-drawn condition they become bent strongly backwards, and this negative bending also remains in drawn condition in a length of 1-2 hand span at both ends of the bow. Turkish-Tartar composite bows, which represent the best of reflex bows, ensured a relatively high initial speed.

Good to know
During the reign of Genghis Khan (1206-27) the Mongolian empire extended from Western China to Asia Minor and Eastern Europe. After his death the empire was torn into pieces, when his four sons shared it. The Mongolian mounted army was characterised by loyalty, discipline, severity and quickness, and a form of warfare which Western people (German, Polish, Hungarian) faced helplessly. The Mongols, with wide ranging reconnaissance, prepared battles, and during the battle directed their tactical manoeuvres with signal flags. One of the Mongols' main arms was the bow, their technical innovation was the steep horn and the string stool, which gave better dynamics to the arrow.
